PLYMOUTH’S Aidan Heslop stormed to victory as the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series visited Northern Ireland’s Causeway Coast this weekend.
With two rounds directly off the rugged cliffs and two off platforms, Heslop excelled in the cold, wet and windy conditions, and victory never looked in doubt following his superb third round dive – a forward four somersaults, three-and-a-half twists pike – for which he earned 151.05 points.
The world champion ended up winning by a massive 46 points.
Heslop finished with 441.65 points from his four dives, with Romanian Constantin Popovici second with 395.55 points and American James Lichtenstein scoring 381.35 points to take third.
It was Heslop’s second win in four legs of the 2024 World Series.
“I’m so happy,” said Heslop afterwards. “I have a few wins under my belt, but this is my first home win and hopefully I can bag a few more.
“It hasn’t been the best weather over the past few days, so I think I had a little bit of an advantage there being a Brit. I was in a good headspace all day.”
The series now moves on to Oslo in Norway before visiting Canada, Turkey and ending in Australia.
Meanwhile, Plymouth Diving youngsters Theo Todd and Rae Mossford won medals at the Swim England National Skills Finals at Southend.
Todd took victory in the group D1 boys’ open category, while Mossford finished third in the girls’ group C section, where her team-mate Margot Elliott finished just behind her in fourth.
