WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Marine Academy confirmed as runners-up after Liskeard beat Sherborne Town

MARINE Academy Plymouth were confirmed as runners-up in the South West Women’s League Premier Division on Sunday after their Cornwall neighbours Liskeard Athletic beat third-placed Sherborne Town 2-1 away.

Sherborne were the only side that could overtake Marine Academy going into the final weekend, but Liskeard prevented that from happening.

The Blues’ win meant they finished fifth in the table, leap-frogging Pucklechurch Sports on the last day.

All the goals in Liskeard’s game came in the second half. Tiana Campbell put the Cornish club ahead before Emily Elliott made it 2-0. Kelly Snook pulled one back two minutes from time but was too late to deny Liskeard.

In the South West League Western Division, Saltash United remained in second place after they beat Sticker 3-0 away from home.

Yasmin Franklin scored two of Saltash’s goals, with their other coming from Olivia Ramsey, who had run the Plymouth 10k just hours earlier.

In the Devon League Premier Division, Plympton extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points after they beat second-placed Budleigh Salterton 5-2 away.

Sam Metters scored a hat-trick for Plympton, who also had Dionne Igalawuye and Mollie Naughton scoring.

In the Devon South & West Division, unbeaten leaders SB Oak Villa were handed a walkover by Lakeside Athletic. It means they are now eight points clear of second-placed Horrabridge Rangers, who they play this coming weekend.

Signal Box enjoyed a 10-0 victory over Hunters District at the weekend. Addy Hitt, Catrin Rickard and Aimee Sharples all scored two goals, while Erin Rumble, Melanie Finch and Emma Guest were also on the scoresheet.

Elm United overcame ever-improving Tavistock 5-1 away. Tavistock’s goal came from Angel Goucher.

In Cornwall League Division Two, Callington Twon were beaten 6-0 away by Padstow United.
