CITY of Plymouth international hurdler David King made an encouraging start to his outdoor season at an event in America.
King clocked 13.52 seconds to win the 110m hurdles at the Desert Heat Classic in Arizona.
Meanwhile, there were some eye-catching performances at the first Devon Open Series meeting of the season at Exeter on Sunday,
City of Plymouth newcomer Annabelle Fasuba moved up to second in the UK under-15 girls’ 100m rankings with an impressive run of 12.4 seconds.
She also clocked a personal best in the 200m with a 25.48 second run, which ranks her fifth in the early national rankings.
Club team-mate Nicolas Maczugowski smashed his 400m flat PB to win in 49.20 seconds. That was the first time he had run under 50 second in a race and beat his previous best by more than a second.
It puts him in the UK’s top 10, alongside his training partner Rory Summers, who pushed him hard on Sunday, clocking 49.38 seconds.
Tavistock AC’s Caleb Gifford-Groves also set a new 400m PB in the under-17 age group with a 53.44 second run.
Plymouth’s Nia Harradine-Cole won the under-17 girls’ 300m in 43.24 seconds and also set a PB in the 200m with 26.58 seconds, while Charlotte Doney held off her Tavistock team-mate Robyn Summers to win the under-15 girls’ 300m in 46.04. Doney also won the under-15 girls’ discus with 29.43m.
There was an impressive throw from Tavistock’s Hazel Stead to win the under-15 girls’ hammer with a PB effort of 47.20m, which ranks her second in the UK.
Club colleague Tegan Brown is in the UK’s top 10 for the under-17 girls’ hammer after throwing 45.69m at Exeter.
Phoebe Milburn won the under-18 hammer with 51.61m, with team-mate Ella Patterson second with a PB of 49.54m. Patterson also set a PB in the under-20 discus with 29.68m.
Fellow Tavistock thrower Louisa Hess took the win in the under-20 hammer with 38.40m, while George Brown set a new PB of 27.08m to finish second in the under-15 boys’ hammer.
Katelyn Milburn won the under-17 girls’ triple jump with 10.17m, she also won the shot and came second in the long jump.
Tavistock team-mate Evie Palmer won the under-17 javelin in 34.11m
City of Plymouth’s Finley Eales set two PBs to claim wins in the under-13 boys’ category. He clocked 5:06.15 to win the 1,500m and 28.38 to take victory in the 200m.
Erme Valley Harriers’ Matthew Gilvear won the under-20 5,000m in 15:50.35, while under-17 team-mate Luke Hayes was second and first in his age in 16:31.51.
Tavistock’s Charlotte Walker won the under-20 women’s 5,000m in 19:26.73.
Plymouth’s Tilly Day came first in the under-13 girls’ 70m hurdles (15.40), while Tavistock’s Olivia Divall took victory in the under-15 75m hurdles in 13.14.
Erme Valley’s Isabelle Drew was first under-15 girl in the high jump with 1.35m.
