Dartmoor Velo’s Day claims podium placing at the first round of the British Cyclo-Cross National Trophy

YOUNG riders from Dartmoor Velo enjoyed a successful trip to Derby at the weekend for the first round of the British Cyclo-Cross National Trophy.

Charlie Day claimed the club’s first podium position in the competition with third place in the under-14 open event.

The 13-year-old, from Tavistock, finished just 15 seconds behind winner Gregory Latuszynski of Solihull, with Vicious Velo’s Sean Mollison second.

Fellow Dartmoor riders Harry Totham and James Clement came 86th and 91st , respectively, in the same strong under-14 open race at the Moorways.

Bryony Medland just missed out on joining Day on the podium as she finished fifth in a competitive under-14 girls’ event. She was the top South West rider.

There was also a strong performance by Samuel Medland in the under-16 open category.

He finished 18th in a tight race that was won by Harrogate’s Josh Stewart.

The next round of the series will take place on the weekend of November 7-8 in Pontypool, Wales.
