WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Argyle are beaten at home by Ipswich, but Plympton, Oak Villa and Horrabridge keep league runs going

PLYMOUTH Argyle were beaten 3-1 at home by fourth-placed Ipswich Town on their return to league action on Sunday.

Playing their first FA Women’s National League Southern Premier game for three weeks, Argyle found themselves behind early on when Natasha Thomas put Ipswich ahead.

But the Pilgrims hit straight back with an equaliser from Georgie Knott.

Chances fell for both teams, but in first-half injury-time Ipswich went back in front with a close-range header from Lenna Gunning-Williams.

And Ipswich made sure of the three points in the 57th minute when Sophie Peskett netted their third.

Liskeard Athletic eased into the semi-finals of the Cornwall Cup with a 13-0 victory over St Dennis on the 3G pitch at Callington.

Emily Elliott netted four times for Liskeard, with Jasmine Allen bagging a hat-trick, Emily Toogood and Char Pettinger both getting two, and Amy Hemingway and Jaydee Seaman also making the scoresheet.

In the Devon Women’s League Premier Division, Plympton extended their lead at the top after they beat Westexe Park Rangers 9-1 and second-placed Budleigh Salterton slipped up at Fremington.

Plympton are now 10 points clear, but Budleigh do have four games in hand.

Sam Metters hit a hat-trick for Plympton, with Dionne Igalawuye and Bella Brown-Tunnell both claiming braces and Elsa Finnegan and Charley Putman also on target for the hosts.

In Devon South & West, SB Oak Villa and Horrabridge Rangers both continue to set the pace at the top.

Oak Villa are unbeaten in the league this season and they overcame Paignton Villa 10-0 away on Sunday. Bex Richards and Libby Williams both bagged four goals for Oak Villa, with Shania Fenlon also netting to go with an own goal.

Horrabridge remain one point clear at the top after they beat Shaldon Villa 6-2 away, but they have played two more games.

Tavistock claimed their first league point as they drew 1-1 at home with Hunters District thanks to a last-gasp equaliser from Kate Atkinson.

Channon Hodge had given Hunters a 1-0 first-half lead, but Atkinson struck in the 96th minute to secure Tavistock a share of the points.

In Cornwall League Division One, Saltash Borough overcame Bude Town 6-0 away thanks to goals from Natasha Brown (2), Abby Shapland (2), Molly Gill and Stacey Gill.
