City of Plymouth hurdler King has his eyes on reaching a second Olympic Games

PLYMOUTH hurdler David King says his eyes are firmly on trying to make this summer’s Olympic Games after reaching the semi-finals at this weekend’s World Indoor Championships.

King progressed through the heats of the 60m hurdles on Saturday in Glasgow with a 7.64 second run before running 7.65 to finish fifth in his semi-final.

Although he missed out on reaching another world final and admitted he was a little bit disappointed with his run, he says his indoor campaign has been ‘encouraging’.

He did recently run 7.59 seconds in Berlin, which was just 0.02 of a second off his PB and his fastest time for two years.

“There have been some really good positives,” said King on his season. “I am very, very consistent at the moment and the back half of my race, although only indoors, has been pretty positive. It’s good signs going into outdoors.

“The goal now is just to kind of take what I have done here and progress even further and run fast outdoors.”

Having competed at the last Olympic Games inside an empty stadium, King really wants to go to Paris. To do so, he will have to lower his 110m hurdles PB.

“The Olympics is a big one for me,” said King, when asked about his aims for the year. “It is the reason why I’m still competing.

“The goal is to go to the European and to go to the Olympics and see what happens.”
