CITY of Plymouth’s Annabelle Fasuba moved to the top of the UK under-16 girls’ rankings in the 100m after an impressive display against some of Britain’s top senior talent at the Stratford Speed event in London.
Fasuba won her heat in a legal time of 11.57 seconds to make the main final.
The 15-year-old triple English Schools’ champion was the only junior to make the main final, where she finished fourth in 11.59 seconds.
She was only beaten by Cheyanne Evans-Gray, Kristal Ama-Awuah and Joy Eze, who are all in the UK’s top 10 seniors.
Closer to home, there were some strong performances at the fourth Devon Open meeting of the season at Brickfields on Sunday.
Tavistock’s Charlotte and Isabelle Doney showed their versatility in hot conditions at Plymouth.
Charlotte won the under-18 girls’ discus event with a throw of 31.90m, with Isabelle second with 29.91m.
There positions were reversed in the under-18 3kg hammer, with Isabelle taking the win with an impressive throw of 48.02m, with Charlotte finishing second with 40.46m.
They also showed their sprinting prowess, with Charlotte winning the under-18 girls’ 100m in 13.72 seconds and Isabelle coming second in 14.42 seconds.
Team-mate Phoebe Milburn won the under-20 hammer, shot and discus events. In the 4kg hammer event, where she is ranked sixth in the UK, she threw 47.43m. In the shot she managed 8.46m and she recorded 21.91m in the discus.
There was a new hammer PB for George Brown in the boys’ under-18 event. He threw 47.74m, which ranks him in the UK’s top 25.
City of Plymouth Harvey Slade continued his good season by clocking the fastest time of an under-14 boy in both the 100m and 200m events.
He set a new legal PB of 12.57 seconds in the 100m and clocked 25.72 seconds in the 200m.
His club colleague Rory Price was quickest under-16 with a PB of 11.62 seconds in the 100m and 24.17 seconds in the 200m. Price also won the under-16 100m hurdles in 14.47 seconds.
Fellow City of Plymouth athlete Lexi Hollister dominated the under-14 girls’ hurdle events.
She won the 200m competition in 32.78 seconds before winning the 75m hurdles in 12.30 seconds.
Tavistock’s Daisy Wrigley was second to Hollister in the sprint hurdles, but she showed her form on the flat by clocking the fastest times by an under-14 girl in both the 100m and 200m.
In the 100m, Wrigley won in 13.22 seconds, while in the 200m she enjoyed a good battle with City of Plymouth’s Anya Findlay before winning in 28.29 seconds. Findlay took second in 28.56 seconds.
City of Plymouth’s Toby Clayden won the senior men’s 110m hurdles in 16.12 seconds and also took victory in the long jump with 6.13m, while club colleague Quinn Davies set a new PB of 1.60m in the under-16 boys’ high jump.
In the longer distance running events, Plymouth’s Phoebe Timson was first woman in both the 1,500m and 5,000m.
She clocked a PB time of 5:03.33 in the 1,500m before then running 20:34.28 in the 5,000m.
Erme Valley’s Peter Allen was first senior in the 1,500m in 4:46.22, with his club colleague Ben Bristow winning the 5,000m in 17:34.76.
Plymouth Harriers’ Chris Hedges, who was third in the senior 1,500m, won the men’s javelin with 35.91m.
There were also quad events for under-10s and under-12s, which proved popular.
Erme Valley Harriers’ Ollie Harding won the boys’ under-10 quad competition, with City of Plymouth’s Millie Easton and Chloe Souness finishing second and third in the under-12 girls’ event.
