STORM Plymouth’s Charlene Matthews continued her good form by powering to victory at the Bridgwater Half Marathon on Sunday.
Matthews claimed the victory in Somerset by more than five minutes.
She finished in a gun-time of 1:23.56 (chip time 1:23.51).
There was an impressive half marathon debut by City of Plymouth teenager Phoebe Timson, who finished fourth woman overall and second in her age category with a 1:31.33 (chip time 1:31.27) run.
In the Bridgwater 10k held on the same day, Storm Plymouth’s Daniel Westlake came second overall in 36.52 minutes.
In the women’s 10k race, Tavistock AC’s Caroline Stevens was second overall and first F50, while her club colleague Sarah Holland was second F50.
Closer to home, a number of the region’s athletes took part in the Treggy 7 at Launceston.
Tamar Trotters Jane Bremner and Instinctive Sports’ Brenda Thorne both claimed category victories.
Bremner won the F65 age group, while Thorne took top honours in the F70 section.
Tamar Trotters’ Lydia Herbert was sixth woman overall and came second in her category, while club colleague Julie Gillbard was second F50 and Mel Hancock was second F60.
Another Tamar Trotter, Jason Langley was third M40, while Tavistock AC’s Peter Bazley was third M70.
Away from the roads, the 40th anniversary of the Haytor Heller fell race on Dartmoor took place on Saturday evening and Plymstock Road Runners’ Graham Bale (M60) and Erme Valley Harriers’ Emma Lake (F50) both won their age categories.
