TWO Plymouth triathletes enjoyed tremendous success at the 2026 European Triathlon Challenge Long Distance Championships in Almere-Amsterdam at the weekend.
Ken Holder became the European champion in the open 55-59 age group in the Netherlands.
He took victory by more than 19 minutes, completing the event in a total time of nine hours, 27 minutes and 12 seconds.
The race included a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a full marathon to finish with.
Holder completed his swim in 1:01.32, then clocked 4:44.12 for the bike ride before running a 3:34.54 marathon.
Netherlands’ Gerrit Alkema was second to him, finishing in 9:46.28.
There was also an impressive bronze medal for Carly Wardle in the women’s 35-39 age group.
She was just beaten by Netherlands’ Julia De Leeuw and Germany’s Charlotte Klindworth.
Wardle finished in an overall time of 11:48.22. She clocked 1:24.10 for the swim, 5:43.32 for the bike ride and 4:28.47 for the run.
The event, which was doubling as the European Championships, was celebrating its 45th anniversary and is Europe’s oldest classic long-distance triathlon.
