MARINE Academy Plymouth secured their first league win of the season as they beat Bournemouth Sports 3-2 at Erme Valley on Sunday in the FA Women’s National League Division One South West.
The victory has lifted them off the foot of the early league table.
The home side did the damage in the first half, where they led 3-0.
Captain Samantha Drewery got them off to a perfect start with a goal after just five minutes.
The returning Ellie Bishop then added a second on 22 minutes before Kate Bowden netted their third on 35 minutes.
Bournemouth did pull two goals back after the interval courtesy of Freya Jennings and Molly Gladwell, but Marine Academy were able to hang on for the three points.
However, Plymouth Argyle are still waiting for their first points of the season in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.
They remain at the foot of the division after losing 5-0 away at Oxford United.
The Pilgrims were only 1-0 down at half-time, but Oxford pulled away in the second period.
Sophie Quirk scored a hat-trick for Oxford, with Holly Manders and Ruby Sealey also netting for the home team.
Plymouth Marjon are off the mark in South West Division One South after they beat Bishop Lydeard 2-0 away from home.
Crystal-Mae Pollack scored both goals for Marjon, who were promoted into the league in the summer.
In the Women’s FA Cup, Devon League side Signal Box Franfort were narrowly beaten 2-1 at home by higher league Ilminster.
Rachel Finch scored SB’s only goal as Ilminster claimed victory in the second half.
In the Devon Women’s League Premier Division, Plympton enjoyed a 5-0 away win at Fremington. Olivia Lennox and Libby Williams both scored twice for Plympton, with Bella Brown-Tunnell adding their other.
There were some big scores in Devon Women’s South & West this weekend.
Hunter District led the way with a 20-1 victory over newcomers FC Galacticos.
Chloe Thompson top scored for Hunter’s with nine goals. Not far behind was Channon Hodge with seven, while Lauren Flynn, Taylor Hart, Olivia Jones and Danielle Schofield were also on the scoresheet.
Horrabridge Rangers also had a big win as they overcame their neighbours Tavistock 17-0 away. Toni Allen and Heidi Davies both scored four for Rangers, with Leesa Grainger and Rebecca McMullin both claiming braces, while Katie Cox, Kirsty Jones, Leah Parnell-Moses, Tara Finch and Kerry Gibbings were also on target.
Newcomers Elburton Villa have made a good start to the season and they beat Lakeside Athletic 12-0 on Sunday. Abigail White scored four, with Molly Riddy getting three and Georgina Whitby two. Their other goals came courtesy of Julia Grau, Lily-May Knapp and Mia Buckley.
Elm Fusion enjoyed a 7-3 home victory over the University of Plymouth on Sunday. Abigail Hyndman scored a hat-trick for Fusion, with Hayley Ranachen and Michelle McGuire bagging two each. Amelia Dudding, Lily Shelford and Chloe McMahan scored for the students.
Elsewhere in the division, Plymouth True Blues overcame Plainmoor 6-1 at home.
In the Cornwall Premier Division, Callington Town were beaten 5-1 away at Wadebridge, with Millie Herath scoring the visitors’ only goal.
In the same division, Saltash Borough handed Kilkhampton a walkover.
In Cornwall Division Two, Saltash United Juniors drew 4-4 at home with Lanner.
