PLYMOUTH Argyle’s place in the FA National League promotion play-off has been confirmed after AFC Bournemouth were beaten 2-0 by Lewes at the weekend.
It means the Pilgrims are certain to finish second in the FANL Southern Premier Division and will play the runners-up in the Northern Premier Division at Burton’s Pirelli Stadium on May 4 for a place in the Women’s Super League 2.
Their opponents in the big game will either be Burnley or Wolverhampton Wanderers. Those two sides are still locked in a battle for automatic promotion with just one point separating them with one game to go.
Meanwhile, Saltash United’s place in the South West Premier Division was confirmed on Sunday, despite them losing 9-2 at home to fourth-placed Gloucester City.
Second-from-bottom Frampton Rangers who were the only team going into the weekend who could possibly overtake them, but they lost 7-0 against Forest Green Rovers in their final match.
Saltash will finish eighth whatever happens in their final league fixture against Poole Town.
On Sunday, the Ashes had Grace Procter and Bethany Prouse on target for them, while Georga Vandries and Sachiko Kaneko-Grun shared Gloucester’s goals.
SB Oak Villa have reached their second cup final of the season after they beat Plainmoor 3-0 in the Devon League Cup semi-final on Sunday.
Saskia Brisley bagged two of their goals, with Rachel Finch netting their other.
They will now play Teignmouth in the final at Tavistock’s Langsford Park on May 5.
However, before that they will play Torquay United in the final of the Devon Premier Cup at Newton Abbot on May 1.
In Devon South & West, Lakeside Athletic finally secured their first win of the season as they came from behind to beat fellow strugglers Tavistock 4-1 at the Parkway on Sunday.
Louise McLeod had calmly fired Tavistock into the lead midway through the first half of a competitive contest.
But Lakeside pulled level before half-time and they scored three second-half goals to bag the three points.
Fiona Pierce scored two of Lakeside’s goals, with Alex Hinkson and Elli Haywood also on target for the home side.
Third-placed Horrabridge kept up their push for a top-two finish by beating fourth-placed Drake FC 4-2 at Fillace Park on Sunday. Leah Parnell-Moses, Toni Allen, Tara Finch and Vicky Jasper netted their goals, with Erin Rumble and an own goal accounting for Drake’s tally.
Elsewhere in the division, Elm United beat Plymouth True Blue 2-0 away.
In the Cornwall Premier Division, Saltash Borough were beaten 3-0 away at St Agnes, while in Cornwall Division One, Callington Town beat Wadebridge Town 4-1 at home.
