STEVE BROOKSHAW was the top performer of the 2024-25 Plymouth Billiards League season, which recently concluded with a trophy presentation at Saltash Social Club.
The campaign was once again made up of two league competitions in a singles format.
Despite having to overcome a tough handicap, Brookshaw completed the season with both the Roger Ayers and Trevor Davies trophies to his name.
With three centuries and consistent scoring throughout, Brookshaw became the first player to achieve the double since the league reverted to singles. Only twice previously has this been achieved when a team format was used.
The Roger Ayers competition went down to the wire, with Steve James finishing in runners-up spot by just a single point.
In the Trevor Davies competition, which followed in the second half of the season, Chris Coumbe compiled breaks of 165 and 159 to take the runners-up trophy. John Wilde, although ending the competition in third place, achieved the biggest handicap reduction with seven wins to three losses.
An individual knockout competition was also held, played over a longer match format, with last year’s winner Coumbe facing Dave Dickson in the final. Fresh from competing in two World Billiards events in Belgium, and beginning on a -420 handicap, Coumbe produced one of his best performances in compiling breaks of 208 and 197 to win by 450-373.
The league gets underway again in September, with clubs across the city rotating to host matches.
