CITY of Plymouth’s Olympic sprint hurdler David King has officially confirmed his retirement from athletics.
King has represented Great Britain at all the major championships and reached the World Indoor final in 2022 and was an Olympic semi-finalist in Tokyo.
He also won multiple British 110m and 60m hurdle titles.
But he hasn’t competed for a year now and he said this week: “I guess it’s time to say it…I’m officially retired from track and field.
“From the national junior league with Plymouth AC to the Olympic Games with Team GB, this sport took me all around the world, pushed me beyond limits, moved me to America and even led me to my wife.
“I gave it everything, and it gave me back more than I ever imagined.
“Whether you were a coach, training partner, sponsor or follower of HurdleReelSeason – thank you. Your support made the last 10 years unforgettable.
“Nearly a year out from my last race and training session, and I couldn’t be more sure this was the right move.”
British Athletics congratulated him on his career and wished him luck in the future.
