TAMAR Trotters’ Mike Wilsmore and Tavistock AC’s Hannah Smith claimed victories at the popular Tavy 7 race on Sunday.
After a number of years of horrible weather, this time around the race on Dartmoor took place in glorious sunshine.
Wilsmore claimed victory by 29 seconds, finishing in a quick time of 37 minutes and 20 seconds.
Second home, and first M40, was Tavistock Run Project’s Jim Cole, who clocked 37.49 minutes.
Third place went to Bideford’s M45 runner Mark Jenkin in 38.03, with Kenny Gibson fourth (39.08) and South West Road Runners’ Tom Humphrey taking fifth spot (39.24).
Home club athlete Smith stormed to victory in the women’s race by nearly two minutes.
She clocked 45.05 minutes, with South Molton Strugglers’ Samantha Baker second in 46.58 minutes.
South West Road Runners’ Jeannette McFadzean (48.27) was third woman and first F55, with South Molton’s Helen Harbottle (48.49) fourth and second F55 and Plymouth Harriers’ Ami Peyton-Jones (49.54) fifth and first F40.
Tavistock Run Project’s Alex Peyton-Jones was third M40 in a category won by his team-mate Cole.
Erme Valley Harriers’ Nick Bristow was second M50, with Plymouth Musketeers’ Damian Dunne third.
Fellow Erme Valley Harriers athletes David Rayfield and David Engledew were also category prize winners. Rayfield was second M55, while Engledew was first M65, with Plymouth Coasters’ Michael Cork third.
Tavistock AC’s Anthony Shearer was second M70.
Plymouth Coasters’ Helen Perry-Smith was third F35, with Bere Alston’s Samantha Harte-Latremoville third F50, while Plymouth Harriers’ Linda Trebilcock and Tavistock AC’s Helen Kula-Przezwanski were second and third in the F65 category. Storm Plymouth’s Gill Tucker won the F75 prize/
Tavistock Run Project came second in the men’s team category, with Plymouth Harriers third.
In the women’s team standings, Plymouth Harriers came second and Tavistock AC third.
The race once again incorporated the Devon County AA Ross Shield team event.
South West Road Runners won the men’s Ross Shield, ahead of Tavistock Run Project and Erme Valley Harriers, while South Molton took the women’s title, with Plymouth Harriers third.
More than 400 runners completed the seven-mile race, which starts and finishes at Plaster Down on Dartmoor. Plymouth Storm had the largest number of runners competing in the run.
