Region’s middle distance athletes impress at BMC meeting at Exeter in mid-week

THERE were some eye-catching personal bests from athletes at the BMC meeting at Exeter in mid-week.

City of Plymouth’s Joshua Blake smashed his 1,500m as he claimed victory in the A race. He clocked 3:49.65, which was more than five seconds quicker than he had previously run for the distance.

Club colleague Elsie Goodspeed also set a big new best mark over the metric mile distance with a 4:36.34 run, which ranks her in the UK’s top 20 at under-16 level.

There was also a 1,500 PB for Plymouth’s under-14 athlete Lucas Sweeney, who clocked 4:28.97, while Phoebe Timson ran 5:06.04.

In the 800m there was an impressive run by Tavistock’s Thomas Hennessey, who knocked six seconds off his PB to record a time of 1:58.41, which ranks him in the top 15 in the UK at under-16 level.

City of Plymouth’s under-20 athlete Jacob Robinson was another to break his best over two laps with a 2:00.97 run.

Also breaking a PB over the 800m distance was City of Plymouth under-14 athlete Ava Buxton, who clocked 2:25.61.

Other Plymouth athletes running under 2:28 were under-16 runner Zoe Bigham, who clocked 2:26.99, and under-14 runner Evie Welsh, who finished in 2:27.75.

Sadie Block, another under-14, ran 2:48.29, while coach Jaime Ingleby ran 2:23.10.
