DARTMOOR Velo and host club Plymouth Corinthians had riders claiming podium places as Plympton’s Newnham Park held round five of the South West Cyclo-Cross League on Sunday.
It was the top part of the Plympton estate that held the latest round, and riders were treated to some glorious autumn weather.
Dartmoor Velo’s Charlie Day convincingly finished as the first under-14 in the third race of the day.
That age group was combined with the under-16s and Day was second overall behind under-16 winner James Allen of Mid-Devon.
Fellow Dartmoor rider Indie Skinner impressed in the under-12 category. She was first girl and came second overall, with her club colleague Rosie Eastmond second girl, while Tahnee Skinner was first under-10 girl.
The fourth race of the day saw the women and older veteran men compete.
Hayleigh Wyle-Smith was first woman home, with Penelope Boyle second and first junior woman, while Sharn Hooper was third overall and first FV40.
Duchy Velo’s James Trubridge won the race and was first MV50, while Mid-Devon’s Robin Delve was first MV60.
The final race, for senior, junior and V40 men, was won by Callum Orchard (Nopinz RT), with Hamish Johnstone (Team Tor) second and Plymouth Corinthian’s Tom Nancarrow third.
Fellow Plymouth Corinthian rider Philip Bray was fifth overall and first V40, while Oliver Riches (Wheal Velocity) won the junior men’s race.
Cyclo-cross will be back at Newnham Park on December 6 when the bottom part of the estate hosts round nine of the series and the South West Regional Championships.
