Tamar Trotters’ Landers and Storm’s Knox impress at Eden Project Half Marathon

TAMAR Trotters’ Jacob Landers stormed to victory in challenging weather at the Eden Project Half Marathon on Sunday.

Landers claimed the win by more than eight minutes, clocking one hour, 16 minutes and 19 seconds.

Second place went to Cornwall AC’s Kenny Gibson, who came home in 1:24.22.

There was a good run by Storm Plymouth’s Lauren Knox, who came 21st overall and second woman in a time of 1:36.56.

Looe Pioneers’ Joanne Robinson was fourth woman and second F45, while Tavistock AC’s 2008 Olympic modern pentathlon silver medal winner Heather Fell was fifth and first F40.

Erme Valley Harriers’ David Engledew was second M65, with Tamar Trotters’ Steve Baker third.

As well as the half marathon, there was also a full marathon, which was won for a second year running by Truro’s Steve Reynolds.

Storm Plymouth’s Ravi Pandy was second M50 in the marathon, while East Cornwall Harriers’ Patrick Munn won the M60 category and Plymouth Musketeers’ Sarah Robinson was third F45.

It was the 14th year the event, which is jointly organised by the Eden Project and St Austell Running Club, had been held.

More than 1,500 runners signed up to take part in this year’s races – the highest number of entries since 2018 – with participants descending on the Eden Project from across the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany and Switzerland.

The event saw runners taking on the challenge of multi-terrain courses through spectacular Cornish landscapes before crossing the finish line in front of the Eden Project’s world-famous biomes.

After receiving their themed medals, participants were then able to enjoy a well-earned beer, courtesy of St Austell Brewery, and a pasty.

Simon Townsend, the Eden Project’s general manager, said: “Despite the mixed weather conditions, the atmosphere has once again been energised and vibrant. It has been so fantastic to witness everyone enjoying themselves and supporting one another as they cross the finish line.

“It’s been great to see such huge numbers taking part and is a testament to the popularity of this event. Our thanks, as always go out to St Austell Running Club, without whom the event would not be possible.”
