PLYMOUTH Argyle progressed in the FA Women’s National League Cup by beating lower league London Bees 3-0 at Home Park on Sunday in front of more than 500 spectators.
It was the perfect way for the Pilgrims to bounce back from their 5-0 league loss to Hashtag United at the same venue seven days earlier.
All Argyle’s goals came in the first half. Georgia Dee Wilson fired them ahead on 13 minutes with a well-struck floated effort from the edge of the box.
Charlotte Whitmore then doubled their lead on 36 minutes when she powered in a rebound after Ella Sara had seen a shot saved by the Bees’ goalkeeper.
And four minutes later, the Greens got a third when Wilson scored again from the edge of the box.
Pilgrims manager Ryan Perks said: “We had to bounce back after a heavy defeat last week, and it was nice to get a clean sheet.
“We spoke about having a clean-sheet mentality before the game and I thought the girls were superb in spells. We went into the half 3-0 up and, although the game went a bit flat in the second half, we probably should have scored a few more. Overall, a pleasing performance.”
In the South West Women’s League Premier Division, Marine Academy Plymouth dropped their first points of the season as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw away at Sherborne Town.
Abbie Woodward and Carmen Morison were on target for Marine, with Chloe and Kelly Snook netting for Sherborne.
In South West Division One, Saltash United and Plympton both made it two wins out of two.
Saltash beat Feniton 2-0 at home with a goal in each half.
Olivia Lennox scored her first goal for the Ashes with a nice volley to put them ahead in the first half, before Yasmin Franklin hit a long-range strike in the second period.
An Isabelle Firth goal secured newly-promoted Plympton a 1-0 away victory at Honiton Town on Sunday.
In the Devon Women’s League South & West Division, Angel Goucher scored a late equaliser to secure Lakeside Athletic a 2-2 home draw with city rivals Signal Box Ladies.
Signal Box had twice gone into the lead, but Goucher hit back on both occasions for the home team.
Signal Box had the better of the first half and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 28th minute with a goal from Phoebe White.
They then thought they had scored a second seven minutes later, but it was ruled out for off-side.
And eight minutes into the second period, Lakeside pulled level when Goucher netted from a corner.
But Signal Box responded almost immediately with Addy Hitt scoring a fine goal after finding herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
However, as the game went on, Lakeside started to get plenty of territory and the Signal Box goalkeeper made a good save before Goucher squeezed in a second just before the end to secure her side a point in a sporting contest at the Parkway.
There was a thrilling derby at Tor Bridge High as Elm United and newcomers The Victory Pub played out a 5-5 draw.
Chloe Yorath bagged four for The Victory to go with a strike from Natasha Brown, while Abi Snell (2), Natasha Forsythe, Crystal-Mae Pollock and Charlotte Rex were on target for Elm.
Elsewhere in the division, Hunters District went down 5-3 at home to Paignton Villa.
