Dixon and McCabe named in Great Britain’s squad for the European Championships in Belgrade

PLYMOUTH divers Matthew Dixon and Euan McCabe have been named in Great Britain’s squad for this month’s European Championships in Belgrade.

At just 24 years-old, Dixon, who in the past year has swapped platform diving for the springboard, is the oldest of the nine-strong team for the event in Serbia.

McCabe will be one of four young divers who will be making their senior international debut after impressing at junior level.

Aquatics GB performance pathway lead for diving Jen Leeming said: “This is a team focussing on the future. It is a group that blends a number of divers with medal-winning experience at European level and athletes who are making the first step up to the senior international stage, which makes for a really exciting group heading to the event in a couple of weeks.

“We are very excited about exposing this group to senior international competition in Europe and hope they gain valuable experience.

“We know that there will be divers from other countries who are using the European Championships as a stepping stone in their preparations for the Olympics, so the chance for our divers to look to put in their best performances against those competitors and build on what they have been working on with such dedication in training is a fantastic one.”

The diving programme in Belgrade runs from June 17 to June 23.
