WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Home win keeps Marine Academy Plymouth top of the table

MARINE Academy Plymouth remain top of the South West Women’s Premier Division after a 3-1 home win over Frampton on Sunday at Manadon.

The hosts took the lead in the 20th minute with a goal from Carmen Morison, but Frampton pulled level before half-time courtesy of a strike by Kelly Jones.

But Marine Academy secured the full three points in the second period with goals from Samantha Drewery and Hannah Lindsey.

Their league rivals Liskeard Athletic were in Cornwall Cup action at the weekend and they progressed with a 7-1 win over Mousehole on the 3G pitch at Callington.

Sam Metters bagged a hat-trick for Liskeard, with Tiana Campbell netting two. Grace O’Leary and Chloe Williams were also on target for the hosts.

In the Devon Women’s Senior Cup, Plympton enjoyed a 5-1 away win University of Exeter. Codie-Al Cleugh, Bethany Plumpton, Lois Igalawuye, Charley Putman and Molly Yeatman scored for the visitors.

Horrabridge Rangers also progressed thanks to a 3-1 home victory over Halwill. Evelyn Bray bagged two goals to go with one from Kirsty Jones.

In the same competition, Hunters District were beaten 11-3 at home by Budleigh Salterton. Hunters scored their three goals in the second half courtesy of Eleanor Cranch, Bethany Liley and Leah Rose.

Signal Box were handed a walkover by Paignton, while SB Oak Villa’s game away at Shaldon was postponed just before kick-off due to a waterlogged pitch. The tie will now be played at Weston Mill this Sunday.

In Cornwall League Division One, an under-strength Saltash Borough were beaten 4-3 away at RNAS Culdrose. Molly Gill scored all Borough’s goals.
