CITY of Plymouth’s teenage pole vaulter Noah Jones smashed his personal best at the South West League meeting at Exeter Arena on Sunday.
Jones leaped 4.10m to take victory in the joint senior men’s/under-20 event which was nine centimetres more than he had ever jumped before.
He had only set a new PB of 4.01m two weeks earlier at the Manchester High Jump and Pole Vault Challenge.
Erme Valley Harriers’ Angus Harris was another athlete to set a PB and take a victory for the Armada team at Exeter. He won the under-17 javelin with a new best of 39.36m.
City of Plymouth’s Jacob Lamboll won the under-20 400m in 49.79m and also set a new PB of 11.18 seconds to finish second in the 100m.
Plymouth’s Tyler Johnson was back in Devon and won the senior men’s 100m in 11.16 seconds and also won the senior 400m in 48.95 seconds.
Toby Clayden came second in the men’s 100m in 11.32 seconds and won the senior 110m hurdles in 15.56 seconds.
City of Plymouth club colleague Henry Curtis was first in the under-20 110m hurdles in 14.76 seconds.
Nicolas Maczugowski took top honours in the under-17 400m in 52.58 seconds, while Tavistock’s middle distance star Emma Ryder dropped down a lap to take second in the women’s 400m in 61.18.
Armada claimed a one-two in the men’s 1,500m, with Lewis Cotterill taking victory in 4:08.45 and Dan Newman finishing second in 4:21.94. City of Plymouth’s over-55 masters athlete Stephen Burns clocked 4:48.34 in the same race.
In the women’s 1,500m, Tavistock’s Nikki Kelly was second in 4:59.61, with club colleague Sam Lake third in a PB time of 5:21.60 and first in her age category.
Ella Isaias won the senior/U20 women’s high jump with 1.60m, while Isabella Trowell was second U15 in the 1,500m steeplechase with a 5:57.11 run and Charlotte Doney set a PB to win the U15 hammer. The Armada team also enjoyed victory in the men’s 4x400m relay.

Elsewhere, Tavistock Run Project’s Oliver Smart enjoyed an impressive debut run over the 5,000m distance at the Hercules Wimbledon Night of Graded 5000m.
Smart clocked 14:14.31 as he finished third overall and first under-20. That time moves him straight into the UK under-20 ranks at fifth.
Meanwhile on the roads, Tamar Trotters’ Oliver Oldfield finished third at the Indian Queens Half Marathon. Oldfield clocked 1:16.56 to finish behind winner Sam Goodchild (Cornwall AC) and Joshua Rowe (Hayle).
East Cornwall Harriers’ Oliver Jones was first M45, while Tamar Trotters’ Bex Ezra was fourth female overall and first under-35 in 1:23.50.

At the multi-terrain Totnes 10k, Erme Valley Harriers’ Matthew Gilvear was fourth overall and first junior.
Plymouth Harriers’ Steve Hill was seventh overall and third M45, while Tavistock Run Project’s Alex Peyton-Jones was 10th and second M40.
Erme Valley’s David Engledew was second M60, while Plymouth Storm’s Charlene Matthews was third M35, East Cornwall’s Sharon Daw took the F55 first prize and Plymouth Harriers’ Ami Peyton-Jones was first F40.
Plymouth Harriers’ Christopher Marcol (2nd, M65), Plymouth Coasters’ Michael Cork (3rd, M65) and Storm’s Catherine Brown (2nd F45) were also among those impressing in their categories at the Teignbridge Trotters’ popular event.
