THERE was a special family double for Dartmoor Darts Aquatic Club on the second weekend of the Devon County Championships at the Life Centre.
The club’s director of swimming Matthew Henry showed his athletes how to do it by winning the senior men’s 50m breaststroke title in 28.71 seconds.
But pushing him hard was his 14-year-old nephew, Cameron Williams, who took senior bronze and won the junior title in a time of 30.03 seconds. That was a new 50m breaststroke junior and age group record.
To make it even more of a family affair, Williams’ mum, Jane, was officiating at the championships as chief timekeeper.
Dartmouth Darts, who train at Mount Kelly Swim Centre in Tavistock, enjoyed a good second weekend at the championships, winning four gold medals, three silver and four bronzes.
Their other medallists included Hollie Steer, Emily Morgan-Hughes, Matthew Plumb and Alice Chapman.
The final weekend of the Devon County Championships will take place on February 3 and February 4 at the Life Centre.
