PLYMOUTH Argyle claimed their first win at Home Park this season as they beat Torquay United 1-0 in the FA Women’s National League Cup.
Brooklyn Brothers, making her first start, scored a great free-kick after just five minutes to decide the game, which was dedicated as a fund-raiser to Torquay’s former Argyle player Roxy Thomas, who is undergoing treatment for a brain tumour.
A crowd of just over 1,000 attended the match, with all ticket money donated to the fundraiser.
But Argyle missed out on topping their group on points difference after Bridgwater United beat Marine Academy Plymouth 4-0 at Erme Valley.
Bridgwater were only 1-0 up with 15 minutes to go, but they scored three late goals to seal the win and the pool.
Rosie Hill scored Bridgwater’s opening goal in the 16th minutes before Ellie Strippel made it 2-0 late on, with Erin Williams scoring twice within 11 minutes at the end, including one penalty.
Plymouth Marjon enjoyed a convincing 5-1 home win over Ridgeway in South West Division One South.
Aimee Kilpatrick netted twice for the students at Foulston Park, with Robyn Hearn, Amelia O’Connell and Phoebe White also on target.
Libby Williams scored both Plympton’s goals as they beat Teignmouth 2-1 in the Devon Women’s Premier Division.
In the same league, Signal Box Frankfort were beaten 5-3 away at Tiverton Town in a thriller. Maya Ridge (2) and Rachel Finch scored goals for the visitors.
Horrabridge Rangers made it three wins from three in Devon Division One West after they overcame previously unbeaten Drake FC 5-0 at Fillace Park.
Rangers were only 1-0 up at half-time with Leah Parnell-Moses putting them ahead, but they turned on the style second half with Jess Oaten scored two great long-range efforts and Toni Allen also popping up with two.
Elm Fusion are also unbeaten with three wins out of three after they saw off Tavistock 13-1 at home.
Nicola Symons and Michelle McGuire both scored four for Fusion, with Abigail Hyndman netting three and Alexa Baker and Maise Lovell also on the scoresheet. Louise McLeod scored Tavistock’s only goal with a 30-yard chip over the goalkeeper.
Plymouth True Blues are third in the table after they beat Elburton Villa 2-1 in a tight affair. Maisie Allison and Jazmine Tingley scored for True Blues with Abigail White replying for Elburton.
Hunter District were narrowly beaten 2-1 away at Plainmoor, while FC Galacticos tough first season in the league continued with a 34-0 defeat at Buckland Athletic.
In the Cornwall Women’s League Premier Division, Saltash Borough enjoyed a 3-1 away victory over neighbours Callington Town. Charlotte Morran, Harriet Howell and Abby Shapland scored for Borough.
In Cornwall Division Two, Saltash United were beaten 5-2 at home by Truro City, with Rebecca Brown and Maise Godfrey scoring for the home team.
