GALLERY: Dartmoor Velo and Plymouth Corinthian riders impress as Saltash Community School hosts cyclo-cross

RIDERS from Dartmoor Velo and Plymouth Corinthian impressed as Saltash Community School played host to a South West Cyclo-Cross League meeting for the first time.

The venue’s stunning views and tricky course proved a hit with many competitors, who were also treated to glorious sunshine.

Dartmoor Velo dominated the youth race, with Samuel Medland taking overall victory ahead of team-mate Charlie Day and Bryony Medland winning the girls’ race.

Fellow Dartmoor Velo rider Aoife Scawn impressed in the combined junior and senior women’s race. She was not only first junior, but first female overall by more than two minutes, with Hayleigh Wyle-Smith second woman and first senior.

In the men’s junior and senior open race, Hamish Johnstone (Team Tor) took victory by over a minute with Wheal Velocity’s Oliver Riches second overall and first junior.

Plymouth Corithian’s Phil Bray was fourth overall and first V40, with his team-mate Ben Causon fifth and second V40.

Tavistock Wheelers’ Lee Adams was third in the senior category.

In the younger age groups, Harriet Day took victory in the under-12 girls’ event, with Wheal Velocity’s Henry Christie first boy.

In the under-eight race, Mid-Devon’s Felix China just edged out Thomas Medland for victory, with Wheal Velocity’s Mia Harris first girl.
