WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Marine Academy progress in the FA Cup and Marjon move top of their league

PLYMOUTH Argyle produced a battling display on Sunday against Real Bedford but were unable to secure their first league win of the season.

The young Pilgrims were leading 1-0 at half-time at Home Park in the FAWNL Southern Premier fixture thanks to a stunning long-range lob by Shana Dolbel.

But Real Bedford hit back in the second half with goals from Anele Komani, Kelci Bowers and Ellie Head to win 3-1.

Marine Academy Plymouth were not in National League action at the weekend as they had a Women’s FA Cup home match against lower league Sherborne to take care off.

And Marine Academy eased through to the next round by winning 3-0 at Erme Valley.

Ellie Bishop, Kelsey Blight and 16-year-old Freya Senior-Gosling, who has just signed for the first team, scored their goals.

Plymouth Marjon moved to the top of the South West Women’s League Division One South after they overcame previously unbeaten Bridgwater United Reserves 2-1 away.

Aimee Kilpatrick and Phoebe White scored Marjon’s goals in Somerset.

In the Devon Premier Division, Plympton suffered an afternoon to forget as they were beaten 4-0 away at Crediton and had a player sent off.

Horrabridge Rangers remain top of Devon West after they beat Hunter District 4-0 away with Katie Cox, Tonia Allen and Kerry Gibbings on their scoresheet.

Louise McLeod produced an inspired performance as Tavistock beat Lakeside 5-3 away.

McLeod netted four stunning goals for the visitors, who had to dig deep after going 4-0 up in the second half.

McLeod scored a hat-trick and Rose Orme netted their other as they looked to have taken a commanding lead.

But Lakeside hit back and with seven minutes to go had made it 4-3 thanks to goals from Sian Jonas, Alex Hinkinson and Leonie Girdwood.

However, McLeod settled Tavistock’s nerves with an outrageous chip from near the corner flag.

It was Tavistock’s second win of the season and moves them up to ninth in the standings.

Plymouth True Blues are second after they edged out Buckland Athletic 1-0 away from home thanks to a goal from Angel Goucher.

Elm Fusion are third after they drew 2-2 at Drake FC. Eleanor Cranch and Amy Neale scored for Drake, with Maisie Lovell and Michelle McGuire netting for Fusion.

There was a good game at Haye Road where Elburton Villa and the University of Plymouth drew 3-3.

Kyla Scannell, Emily Shute and Abigail White scored for Elburton, with Amelia Dudding (2) and Emily Nicol replying for the students.

In the Cornwall Premier Division, Saltash Borough lost 2-0 away at Bodmin, while in Cornwall Division Two, Saltash United Juniors triumphed 4-1 at home against Biscovery. Maisie Chamberlain fired in a hat-trick for the Ashes, with Erin Tamblyn netting their other.
