CITY of Plymouth’s Victoria Weir picked up her second European Cross Country Championship team gold medal on Sunday in Slovakia.
Weir was part of the successful Great Britain under-20 side that finished top of the podium for the second year running.
Although only the top three of each six-person team counted towards the final score, all squad members received medals.
Continuing her comeback from a lengthy injury, University of Birmingham student Weir finished 52nd overall in a strong field of more than 100 athletes.
In a close, early morning race held in freezing conditions, less than one minute separated third from 53rd.
Weir’s Great Britain team-mate Harriet Knowles-Jones won individual gold on the flat 4k course.
Knowles-Jones and Weir were joined in the GB under-20 women’s squad by Cari Hughes, Khahisia Mhlanga, Niamh Brown and Phoebe Barker.
Great Britain enjoyed a highly-successful competition across all the age categories. They won nine medals in total – five gold and four bronze.
