Tocknell retains Burrator Horseshoe title

Arran TocknellTORBAY’S Arran Tocknell retained the Burrator Horseshoe Race title on Saturday.

Tocknell ran the gruelling seven mile off-road run, which takes athletes from Meavy village green out to Burrator Reservoir and up to the summit of Sheepstor and then Gutter Tor, 10 seconds quicker than last year.

The 29-year-old clocked 41 minutes dead to finish 37 seconds ahead of second-placed James Best.

Okehampton’s Robert Hicks was third in 42.08. Erme Valley Harriers’ Allister Bristow was eighth in 46.41.

First women was Liz Tapper, who finished in 55.30, with Ester Veldhuizen just 30 seonds behind. Sharon Law was third female in 57.35.
