TOP mountain biking returns to Plymouth this month when Newnham Park hosts the second round of the 2016 National Cross Country MTB Series returns.
Newnham successfully hosted a leg of the series last year, which was unanimously voted the round of the season.
This year’s event takes place over weekend of April 22-24.
The action starts with a ‘Beat the Bike’ trail run on the Friday night, where runners see if they can put in a faster lap time than the mountain bikers on the same technically demanding course.
This is followed by a night-time mountain bike race under a full moon, with live music and camping.
Saturday and Sunday is when the National Series event happens, with racing for all ages and all abilities from under-eight to over 65 and from newcomers to Olympians.
Plymouth will be well represented in many categories, including three elite women – Maddie Horton, who recently won the Tavy 13, Lucy Allen and Carla Haines all seeking to use local knowledge to their advantage.
Plymouth’s Pilgrim Flyers, a youth only mountain bike club, will also be flying the green and white flag across the categories.
