THE University of St Mark and St John produced a sensational comeback against the University of Plymouth to win the men’s rugby event at the 2015 Varsity competition at Brickfields.
Marjon had been 14-0 down but came back to claim a 15-14 victory thanks to a last-gasp penalty in front of a bumper and vocal crowd at Plymouth Albion’s ground.
Marjon also triumphed in the women’s rugby game, winning 20-10, although the University of Plymouth did win the men’s second team fixture.
The annual Varsity competition sees the two city universities battle it out in a variety of sports over a two-week period.
It started off as just a rugby event but now involves nearly everything from water polo, lacrosse to American flag football. The event helps to raise money for charity.
