PLYMOUTH Argyle have reached the final of the FA Women’s National League Cup after impressively coming from behind to overcome unbeaten Northern Premier Division leaders Burnley 4-1 at Home Park on Sunday.
It is the first time the Pilgrims’ have made a major cup final and they will play either West Bromwich Albion or AFC Bournemouth at Loftus Road in March.
Burnley had arrived in Devon sitting top of the Northern Premier Division with 11 wins and just two draws to their name.
And the visitors made a dream start with Millie Ravening firing in a stunning 40-yard effort to put them in front in the 13th minute.
But Argyle settled and they pulled level just before the break when Tianna Teisar netted after the ball dropped perfectly for her in the area.
And six minutes into the second half, the home side when in front when Phoebie Poole scored from the penalty spot after Teisar had been brought down in the box.
The influential Teisar then added her second after Ellie Noble had seen a long-range effort parred by the goalkeeper.
And in injury-time, Poole also bagged her second of the match to seal and impressive victory.
In the FA Women’s National League Division One South West, Marine Academy Plymouth had a disappointing afternoon away at mid-table Ascot United, where they were beaten 3-0.
Darcey Maxted put Ascot ahead in the first half before Erin Huntley and Aaisa Harney added further goals in the second period.
In the Devon Women’s League South & West Division, Elm Fusion boosted their title hopes by beating Horrabridge Rangers 6-2 at Tor Bridge High.
Nicola Symons and Abigail Hyndman both scored twice for Fusion, with Jade Bryan and Maisie Lovell also on the scoresheet.
Leaders Elm Fusion have moved eight points clear of Horrabridge, but the Fillace Park side do have four games in hand.
Drake FC are up to third in the table after they produced a strong display to beat Tavistock 13-0 away.
They did the damage in the second half where they scored 10 of their goals.
Amy Neale scored four for Drake, with Millie Springbett bagging three and Cerys Morgan two. Jaz Bonney, Eleanor Cranch, Alice O’Hare and Rebecca Bennett were also on target for Drake.
In the Cornwall Women’s League Premier Division, Saltash Borough were beaten 10-0 at home by Newquay.
