PLYMOUTH Argyle extended their unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions with a 2-0 victory away at Cheltenham Town in the FA National League Southern Premier Division.
The Pilgrims had chances but had to wait until first-half injury-time to take the lead at Bishop Cleeve when Charlotte Whitmore charged into the box after a good ball over the defence and cut in on her right foot to fire home.
Argyle then doubled their lead in the 59th minute when Phoebie Poole hit a low penalty into the corner after Tianna Teisar had been fouled in the box.
The three points Argyle collected keeps them in third place behind AFC Bournemouth, who they play at home this coming Sunday, and Watford.
Meanwhile, the draw for the FA Cup first round proper has handed Argyle a home tie against Maidstone United.
The Pilgrims are the only Plymouth side to be still in the FA Cup after both Marine Academy Plymouth and Plympton were well beaten on Sunday.
Marine Academy went down 6-1 away at FA National League Division One South West rivals Bristol Rovers.
Lucy Solloway had fired Marine ahead in the 11th minute of the game, but Rovers took command after that.
Meg Jarvis, Annys Turner and Chloe Bassett scored first half goals for Rovers, who ran away with the game in the final 20 minutes with late goals from Jarvis, TJ Gauvain and Nia Rees.
Devon League side Plympton were beaten 8-0 at home by unbeaten FA National League Division One South West leaders Swindon Town.
Libby Davies and Annabelle Coltston both scored hat-tricks for Swindon, with Libby Waglen and Holly Beck-Esson netting their others.
There was league disappointment for Saltash United, who were beaten 2-1 away at Pucklechurch Sports in the South West Women’s League Premier Division.
Bethany Prouse scored the Ashes’ only goal in South Gloucestershire, with Amy Jefferies and Courtney Adams netting for the hosts.
Early Devon League Premier Division leaders SB Oak Villa conceded a last-gasp goal as they were held 2-2 away at Teignmouth on Sunday.
Oak Villa looked like they were going to pick up another three points after Rachel Finch scored two first half goals, but in the final minute Danielle Garland equalised for Teignmouth after Jennifer Hammond had scored in the first half for them.
Horrabridge Rangers stay top of Devon South & West after they beat Plymouth True Blues 3-1 away on Sunday.
Jess Oaten had given Horrabridge a 1-0 first half lead, but Angel Goucher pulled True Blues level after the interval. However, Rangers took the three points thanks to goals by Leesa Grainger and Leah Parnell-Moses.
There was a good game at Tor Bridge High, where Elm United and Elm Fusion played out a 3-3 draw.
Elm Fusion had led 2-1 at the break thanks to goals by Emily Mousley and Lucia Webb, but their neighbours hit back with strikes by Becky Brown (2) and Mia-Mae Lawrence, with Roxanne Byrne netting Fusion’s third.
Drake FC beat struggling Lakeside Athletic 26-1 at the Parkway. Erin Rumble scored eight times for Drake, with also had Molly Yeatman netting four and Eleanor Cranch three. There were two goals apiece for Creys Morgan, Alice O’Hare and Jaz Bonney, while Jamie-Leigh Blight, Aimee Sharples, Amelia Coles and Millie Springbett were also on target for Drake. Alex Hinkinson scored Lakeside’s only goaol.
Elsewhere in the league, Tavistock were beaten 6-0 away by Plainmoor.
In the Cornwall League Premier Division, Saltash Borough beat St Dennis 2-1 away, while Callington Town drew 3-3 away with Wadebridge in Division One. Robyn Clavey, Chloe Yorath and Harriet Hall scored for Callington.
