WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Home frustration for Plymouth Argyle and Marine Academy, but joy for Plympton and SB Oak Villa

PLYMOUTH Argyle were left frustrated after conceding a late goal to draw 1-1 at Home Park with AFC Wimbledon on Sunday in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.

The Pilgrims looked like they were going to continue their 100 per cent home record this season after taking a first half lead courtesy of a penalty by Phoebe Poole after Olivia Francis was fouled.

But with just two minutes of the game to go, former Argyle player Ellie Dorey headed home an equaliser for Wimbledon.

“We got a point, but the over-riding feeling is of disappointment because we dominated in so many areas,” said Argyle coach Marie Hourihan afterwards.

“We created enough opportunities to win two games.”#

There was also disappointment for Marine Academy Plymouth who were beaten 2-0 at home by unbeaten league leaders Swindon Town in heavy rain at Erme Valley in FAWNL Division One South West.

Swindon were always in control, despite having a player sent off for two yellow cards in controversial circumstances in the first half.

Annie Colston scored both Swindon’s goals – the first coming in the 16th minute with a long range effort and then her second came seven minutes into the second half.

Saltash United are still looking for their first win in the South West Women’s Premier Division after their promotion as they were beaten 7-2 away at Forest Green Rovers on Sunday.

Forest Green did the damage in the second half, scoring five of their goals in the second 45 minutes.

Yasmin Franklin and Beth Prouse scored Saltash’s goals at Hartpury.

However, there was joy for Plympton and SB Oak Villa in the Devon women’s Premier Division.

Plympton beat Braunton 5-2 away, with Lucy Grose bagging four of their goals. Sam Metters scored their other in north Devon.

Oak Villa, meanwhile, beat Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police 2-1 at Manadon thanks to goals from Kiri Pethick and Rachel Finch.

Horrabridge Rangers made it two wins out of two in the Devon South & West Division with a 6-2 away win at newcomers Drake FC.

Toni Allen scored a hat-trick for Horrabridge, who also had Tara Finch, Vicky Jasper and Leah Parnell-Moses on the scoresheet.

Elm Fusion bounced back from their heartbreaking last-gasp loss to Horrabridge the week before to beat Hunter District 5-1 at home thanks to a hat-trick from Emily Mousley and two from Michelle Mcguire. Mollie Dring scored Hunter’s goal.

Elsewhere in that division, Crystal-Mae Pollock scored four goals as Elm United beat Plainmoor 5-4 away. Kelly Nicholls bagged Elm United’s only goal in Torquay.
