CITY of Plymouth’s Great Britain international Poppy Tank added a BUCS Championship title to her list of honours.
Tank, representing Birmingham University, won the 5,000m at the event in Manchester on Monday.
The 2023 British steeplechase champion pulled away on the final lap to win in a time of 16.01.39, with Loughborough’s Charlotte Dannott taking second place in 16.03.96.
Tavistock Run Project’s Oliver Smart, also competing for Birmingham University, finished fifth in a stacked men’s 5,000m at the same championships.
Smart clocked 14.19.37 in an event where Birmingham University filled four of the top five placings.
Will Barnicoat took victory in 14:13.15, just ahead of his team-mate Tomer Tarragango, who clocked 14:13.44. Third place went to fellow Birmingham student Isaac Chandler in 14.14.79.
City of Plymouth’s Jacob Lomboll just missed out on a medal in the men’s 400m by 0.01 of a second.
He finished fourth in a time of 48.69 seconds, having clocked 48.86 and 48.89 seconds in the earlier rounds.
Club team-mate Kinga Kudzia reached the final of the women’s 200m, where she finished fifth in 24.81 seconds. She also reached the semi-finals of the 100m where she ran 12.08 seconds.
Hanna Ulvede ran a season’s best of 63.12 in the heats of the women’s 400m hurdles, while Joshua Blake and Daniel Newman ran 1:58.27 and 1:58.12, respectively, in the heats of the 800m.
Plymouth Harriers’ Jack Dee competed in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase, where he clocked 10.08.20, while City of Plymouth’s Henry Curtis clocked a PB of 58.17 seconds in the men’s 400m hurdles.
Meanwhile at the South West Athletics League meeting at Exeter on Sunday, City of Plymouth’s Rory Summers set a new competition record.
Summers broke the under-20 best for a 400m race, clocking 48.90 seconds to take the victory. He had previously run 48.59 seconds at Yeovil to put him seventh in the UK rankings in his age group.
Also at the Exeter event, City of Plymouth teenager Nubia Evans-Shields set a season’s best throw of 41.75m to win the women’s discus, while Tavistock’s Tegan Brown (49.11m) and Hazel Stead (47.46m) were first and second in the under-17 girls’ hammer.
City of Plymouth’s Elsie Goodspeed ran a PB time of 5:00.8 to win the under-15 girls’ 1,500m, while club colleague Nia Harradine-Cole took victory in the under-20 400m with a 62.05 second run.
Erme Valley’s Isabelle Drew triumphed in the under-15 girls’ high jump with a PB of 1.51m, while team-mate Isabella Trowell was second in the under-17 triple jump with 10.51m.
City of Plymouth brothers David and Bryan Oldfield clocked 11.64 and 11.84 seconds in the under-17 boys’ 100m.
