SALTASH United claimed the South West Women’s Division One South title on Wednesday night with a 4-2 victory over Cornish rivals Sticker in front of a three-figure crowd at Kimberley Stadium.
After beating Plympton 4-0 on Sunday, the Ashes went into their mid-week clash knowing they needed just a point to be crowned champions.
They took the lead in the 27th minute with a goal from Evelyn Bray, but Sticker equalised within nine minutes when Tori Marks took advantage of a mix up in the Ashes defence to score.
Both sides had chances late in the first half to take a lead at the break. Morgan Friend smashed the ball against the post in the 39th minute before Ashes goalkeeper Konnie Kleczkowski made a good save at the other end.
But Saltash did finally get a second goal just four minutes into the second period with Nicola Symons scoring after a cross from the right was not cleared by Sticker.
And six minutes later, the ashes got a third when Bray bagged her second goal with a fine long-range shot.
Saltash then made it 4-1 when Liv Lennox fired in from the back post in the 60th minute.
It looked like the game was going to stay at 4-1 but seven minutes into injury-time, Sticker were awarded a penalty which Marks fired in.
Saltash will conclude their league campaign on Sunday when they host Helston Athletic.
