CITY of Plymouth’s Annabelle Fasuba continued her sensational form by winning the under-15 girls’ 60m title at the England Championships at the weekend in Sheffield.
Fasuba, who won the English Schools’ 100m title last summer, added her second national crown with a personal best run of 7.53 seconds in the final to edge out Honor Oteng in a great battle.
That time not only sees the 13-year-old top the UK rankings, but also moves her up to eighth in the UK all-time list for under-15 girls.
She has also run faster than Olympic stars Dina Asher-Smith and Desiree Henry ran when they were at under-17 level.
There was also a PB performance in Sheffield for City of Plymouth hurdler Adam Dingley.
Dingley ran 7.88 seconds to win his heat of the under-20 men’s 60m hurdles before clocking 7.91 seconds to finish fourth overall in a high-class final.
He was the third English athlete, with Wales’ Iolo Grant taking victory in a world-leading under-20 time. Exeter Harriers’ Joshua Taylor came second in the final with a PB time of 7.71 second.
Dingley’s run has moved him into the UK’s all-time top 30 and he is closing in on David King’s club record of 7.75 seconds.
Fellow City of Plymouth athlete Nicolas Maczugowski also competed in Sheffield.
Although his specialist event of the 400m hurdles is not an indoor discipline, he competed in the under-20 400m flat and reached the semi-finals.
He won his heat in 51.30 seconds before finishing third in his semi-final with a 51.20 second run.
Erme Valley Harriers’ Isabelle Trowell competed in the under-17 girls’ triple jump in which she finished 16th in a strong field with a leap of 10.51m.
Meanwhile, City of Plymouth high jumper Ethan Glyde has continued his progress in America by finishing second in a men’s NCAA Division One competition in Missouri.
He leaped 2.03m in that meeting, but he did leap 2.10m on his debut for the Iowa University in December, which ranks him as the number one freshman in the Big 10 Conference.
