PLYMOUTH Argyle were left frustrated after losing 2-0 to fellow strugglers Cheltenham Town at Kimberley Stadium on Sunday in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.
The defeat keeps them in the bottom two, although they do have two games in hand on Cheltenham, who are now five points above them in ninth.
The visitors went ahead in the 22nd minute with a goal from Una Lue.
Argyle had opportunities but were unable to take them.
Then midway through the second period Cheltenham added a second from a corner courtesy of Emily Owen. However, Argyle were unhappy that the corner was taken when Amii Kearley was needing treatment for an injury.
Taya Pomfret was cautioned and sin-binned, while manager Ryan Perks was sent off.
Charlotte Whitmore and Ella Stephens were also sin-binned in the final quarter as Argyle tried their best to get back into the contest.
In the South West Women’s Premier Division, Marine Academy Plymouth moved back to the top after they beat Ilminster Town 4-0 away.
Kelsey Blight scored two goals for Marine, who also had Abbie Woodward and Clara Martin on target.
Although Marine are at the top, Forest Green Rovers and Torquay United below them do have games in hand.
In the South West Division One South, leaders Plympton continued their 100 per cent record with a 3-0 home win over Honiton Town. Elsa Finnegan, Sam Metters and Bella Brown-Tunnell scored for Plympton.
Saltash United are also unbeaten in that division, but they were in Cornwall Cup action on Sunday and they beat higher league St Austell 3-2 away. Katie Hengle and Hayle Ranachan were on target for the Ashes, who were also helped by an own goal.
They move into the quarter-finals of the competition, where they are joined by Saltash Borough, who beat Wendron 5-3 away with Rachel Finch bagging four goals.
In the Devon Women’s League South & West Division, Horrabridge Rangers stay top after they beat SB Oak Villa 3-0 at home.
Toni Allen and Vicky Jasper scored in the first half for Horrabridge, with Leah Parnell-Moses netting in the second period.
Elm United stay in third place after they beat Tavistock 15-1 away. Abi Snell bagged five goals for Elm, with Ella Parrott and Crystal-Mae Pollock claiming hat-tricks, while Charlotte Rex (2), Elizabeth Young and Eva Jones were also on target.
There was a good game at Devonport High School for Boys where The Victory Pub and Lakeside Athletic played out a 4-4 draw.
Oliva Shreeves and Chloe Yorath both scored twice for The Victory, while Lily Daw (2), Angel Goucher and Maise Allison netted for Lakeside.
In the same division, Hunters District were beaten 8-0 by Shaldon Villa.
