PLYMOUTH’S Kerenza Bryson set a new Olympic modern pentathlon record as she won her semi-final on Saturday morning at Paris 2024.
The European champion, representing Team GB, scored 1,402 points at the vanguard of a pack finish as Italy duo Elena Micheli and Alice Sotero were joined in reaching the women’s final by world champion Seungmin Seong of Korea and Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Kate French (GBR).
Afterwards Bryson, who really impressed on the laser-run, said: “I’m really happy; really pleased that I executed the races I wanted and progressed through to the final tomorrow.
“It was amazing. I really loved it. The crowd were amazing for the French and for all the athletes, I thought, and I was really trying to use that energy to help me run faster.
“I like to be quite relaxed and quite chilled and have fun and just kind of take it all in as I go.
“I’m not too strict about being in a really isolated zone. I was looking around, trying to spot all the people who have come out to support me in the crowd.
“I’m really happy that a lot of people have come out from England to be here for me, and they look like they’re enjoying the atmosphere as well. So, I’m happy.”
