PLYMOUTH’S Aidan Heslop narrowly missed out on making the podium at the third leg of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, which was held at the scenic Italian town of Polignano a Mare.
World high diving champion Heslop, who had triumphed at the second leg in Boston, had to settle for fourth place in Italy.
Heslop finished behind Romanian Constantin Popovici, American James Lichtenstein and Mexico’s Jonathon Parades.
Popovic took victory ahead of Lichtenstein by just 0.25 of a point and Heslop just missed out on third place by less than three points.
Heslop, who has finished as runner-up in the series for the past two years, currently stands third in the overall rankings ahead of the competition moving to Northern Ireland later this month, which will mark the halfway point of the series.
Meanwhile, Plymouth Diving picked up a number of medals at the Swim England Diving National Age Group Championships at Sandwell over the weekend.
Rose McCabe and Lexi Davies took victory in the female group A/B three-metre synchro event on the opening day. Davies also won a bronze in the group B platform competition.
There was also a gold medal for Will Heath in the open group B platform event, while Harry Westbury and Seth Greentree won a silver in the open group C/D one-metre synchro competition.
Greentree was also an individual medallist, winning bronze in the open group D event.
Maddie Elliott was another individual bronze medallist. Her podium finish came in the group A three-metre event, while Louie McCue and Lincoln Stephens claimed a bronze in the open group A/B three-metre synchro.
