City of Plymouth discus thrower Evans-Shields earns another international call-up

CITY of Plymouth’s Nubia Evans-Shields has received a second international call-up within the space of a week.

The three-times English Schools’ discus champion was named in Great Britain’s under-20 squad for Sunday’s Loughborough International and now she has also been selected to represent England at the Pickering Memorial Throws International at the same venue on May 27.

She is one of 20 young athletes picked across shot put, discus, hammer and javelin to compete at the bank holiday meeting.

England team leader Garry Power said: “What an exciting opportunity for athletes to shine in a highly competitive environment.  There are athletes striving for major championships qualification whilst others have already exceeded qualification standards and are looking to repeat another excellent distance.”

Evans-Shields did compete for England at the same event last year and achieved a then personal best of 44.86m, which she has since beaten this season.
