OLD Techs and Devonport Services II will be looking to lift Devon cups this weekend, while Saltash will be aiming to edge closer to Twickenham in the Papa Johns Community Cup.
Techs will host New Cross on Saturday at Weston Mill in the final of the Devon Junior Bowl, while Services II will travel to league rivals Barnstaple II in the final of the Devon 2nd XV Cup.
Meanwhile, Counties Two Cornwall runners-up Saltash face a tough test when they host Counties Two Gloucestershire North champions Gordon League in the second round of the Papa Johns Community Cup.
It should be a good contest at Moorlands Lane as Gordon League have only lost one game all season in the league – their opening match against Old Patesians on September 2, while Saltash were only beaten by Redruth II in their division. Both sides have been free-scoring in their respective leagues.
It will be the first of two major games for Saltash within the space of five days as on Wednesday evening they will take on Devonport Services II in the final of the Lockie Cup at Brickfields.
By then Services II will be hoping to already have a trophy in the bag as they could win the Devon 2nd XV Cup on Saturday if they beat Barnstaple II at Pottington Road.
However, they will know it will be tough as Barnstaple II did beat them twice in the league this season as the north Devon club topped the division.
But Services are on a bit of a roll at the moment with their first team winning Regional One South West and reaching the final of the Devon Senior Cup and their third string claiming the Pedrick Cup on Wednesday night.
Frustratingly, though, Services II are likely to be without many of their successful team as they are named in the Devon U20 squad to play Gloucestershire on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Old Techs will be looking to win their first trophy for a few years when they take on New Cross on Saturday at home in the Devon Junior Bowl final.
Like Services II and Saltash, they also have a cup final on Wednesday as well when they take on Plymstock Oaks II in the Ellis Trophy final.
“It is a quick turnaround having two cup finals within the space of four days, especially when we are working with a small squad due to long-term injuries,” said Techs’ Shaun Bedford-Smith. “But we would rather be in two finals than none.
“We are just focusing on the Saturday game. We can worry about the other one after this weekend.
“As I said, it’s great to be in two finals, but you don’t just want to be in them, you want to win them.
“We know this weekend is going to be tough. New Cross have done brilliantly this season and finished second in their league.
“But we are playing at home and hopefully we can make that advantage count.
“I think everyone is looking forward to it. We have always had good games with them. We played them a few years ago in the David Butt Trophy final.
“Hopefully, it is going to be a really good final.
“We’ve had a really good run over the last three months and the lads have really turned it around since the Totnes game. We kept saying to the players that if they really committed that they could do so much better and that has been proved.
“You really can’t fault their effort over the last three months and they have got their rewards by getting into two finals.”
Techs are missing Lewis Harvey and Jensen Baker who played last week, but they should welcome back Joe Bailey, Lewis Tunnicliffe and Ben Hill.
Devon RFU do insist that there is an admission charge to all their cup finals and so it will cost £5 to watch, with under-16s admitted free.
After losing 80-22 to Exeter Saracens last weekend in the first leg of the Devon Junior Cup semi-final, OPMs have forfeited the second leg.
