WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Plymouth Argyle rise up the table with win at Milton Keynes Dons

PLYMOUTH Argyle have moved up to seventh in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division thanks to 4-3 away victory at Milton Keynes Dons.

The Pilgrims are now 11 points and four places clear of the relegation zone after two wins in their last three games.

They did go behind twice on Sunday but showed good character to come back and eventually go 4-2 ahead before conceding a goal in the final minute.

The hosts took the lead in the 40th minute with a strike from Tricia Gould.

But within three minutes the Pilgrims had levelled with a fine goal from Ellie Sara after good play by Charlotte Whitmore.

After the interval Lucy Wood put Milton Keynes Dons 2-1 up but the match completely changed in a five-minute spell in the final quarter of the contest, where Argyle scored three quick-fire goals.

Jade Berrow pulled the Greens level in the 73rd minute before two minutes later Sara bagged her second to put the visitors in front for the first time.

Sara then completed her hat-trick three minutes later to make it 4-2.

In the 90th minutes, Laura Mitchell pulled one back for the Dons. Following the goal Taya Pomfret picked up a second yellow card and so was sent off, but it did not make a difference as the hosts could not snatched an injury-time leveller.

In the South West Women’s League Premier Division, second-placed Marine Academy Plymouth ended their home campaign with a 4-2 victory over Pucklechurch Sports on Sunday.

Cameron Morison bagged two goals for Marine Academy, with captain Samantha Drewery and Megan Boulton also netting.
