PLYMOUTH’S Euan McCabe and his Great Britain diving partner Robbie Lee won the silver medal in the platform synchro event at the FINA World Junior Diving Championships in Canada.
Their silver medal in Montreal followed on from winning the European Junior Championship title in the summer.
Wednesday night’s World Championship final could not have been tighter with just four-and-a-half points separating the top three.
Germany took gold with 301.98 points, with McCabe and Lee producing a great final dive to finish on 298.74. USA came third with 297.48.
McCabe and Lee produced two great required dives but were down in fifth place with one round to go. But they produced a great final back two-and-a-half somersaults and one-and-a-half twists in pike final dive to score 72 points and take silver.
Lee attributed McCabe and his silver medal to their first two dives.
“We capitalised on those and got over 100 points so when we dropped our optionals, we didn’t go too far down the leader board,” said the Southampton diver.
