RUGBY returns to the Rectory on Friday evening when Devonport Services host their annual 10s event (7pm).
This year Services, who will have two teams out, will be taking on sides from Liskeard-Looe and Tamar Saracens.
Services coach Mike Lewis says the evening is just about getting a bit of match fitness and having some fun in pre-season.
“It’s a good social evening,” said Lewis. “And it’s a chance to get some match fitness early in pre-season.
“You can do all the fitness and all the skills sessions you want, but nothing beats running around, tackling and having to get up off the floor.
“Every year we have held this the games have always been pretty competitive no matter what teams are involved, whether they are two divisions higher or two divisions lower. This time of year is a leveller.”
“As it is the school holidays we have got a few boys missing, but we have 36 boys out who are all really keen,” said Lewis.
Among Services’ new arrivals who will get a run out on the evening will be Dino Bozic, Corey Jamieson, Jake Inglis, James McQuillan and Jack Parker, who could come up against his former club Liskeard-Looe. Teenager Parker, who played for the Plymouth Combination side in May, is going to be living in Plymouth from September as he is going to be studying at Marjon.
The likes of colts George Thomas and Herbie Owen will also get a chance on Friday.
“It is good to see colts involved,” said Lewis.
