PLYMOUTH pentathlete Annabel Denton continued her impressive season by winning a mixed relay bronze medal with Sam Cobb at the Under-17 World Championships in Sofia.
The 16-year-old added the relay medal to the team bronze she had won for Great Britain in the under-19 women’s final the day before, where she had finishing ninth overall and top Brit.
Denton and Cobb started the day with the 12th quickest time in the swim, however, a solid 2:08.82 ensured they kept in touch with many of the other nations.
With both athletes’ strength lying in the laser-run, the young Brits still knew they had a chance of a strong finish and they picked up places throughout the 3,200m run-shoot course.
A strong first two laps from Denton saw them gain ground before Cobb continued his team-mate’s good work, hauling the British duo onto the podium with the third quickest laser-run time of the day.
