Maczugowski and Isaias impress at Devon Schools’ Combined Events Champs

TAVISTOCK’S Nicolas Maczugowski and Erme Valley Harriers’ Ella Isaias impressed on their way to medals at the Devon Schools’ Combined Events Championships at Exeter Arena.

Maczugowski claimed personal bests in all his disciplines to take overall silver in the under-13 boys’ pentathlon behind Torbay’s Josh Taylor.

The Tavistock College pupil ran 13.97 seconds for the 75m hurdles, threw 7.67m in the shot, leaped 4.29m in the long jump and 1.36m in the high jump and ran 2:38.65 for the 800m.

Devonport High School’s Isaias took bronze medal in a highly-competitive under-15 girls’ pentathlon event.

She claimed PBs in four of her five disciplines. She leaped 4.51m in the long jump, ran 13.34 seconds for the 75m hurdles, threw 6.91m in the shot, claimed an impressive 1.62m for the high jump, which was a seven centimetre PB, and ran 2:29.45 for the 800m.

In the same age group, her Erme Valley team-mate Olivia Travers came fifth, with Tavistock’s Annabelle Hess seventh.

Mount Kelly College and Tavistock athlete Emily Lumley was second in a light under-17 girls’ event, while City of Plymouth athlete Matthew Newton was fourth in the under-15 boys’ competition.

Meanwhile, the combined City of Plymouth, Erme Valley Harriers and Tavistock athletic team impressed at the second Southern Athletics League Division Two West meeting of the season. They came second behind host club Bournemouth at the weekend.

Plymouth’s Dean Smith took victories in the 800m (2:00.1) and triple jump (12.24m), while Tavistock’s Emma Ryder won both the women’s A 800 (2:18.00) and 1,500m (5:01.6).

Tavistock’s Joely Bytheway won the women’s 400m hurdles in 68.6 seconds and came second in the triple jump.

Plymouth’s Matt Bradley won the men’s A 3,000m steeplechase in 10:06.4, while there was a good run over the distance for under-17 Tavistock athlete Bradley Stevens, who clocked 10:55.3 to take the B victory. Stevens also came second in the javelin with a PB of 35.78m.

City of Plymouth’s Brook Adnitt took second in the 100m with a PB of 11.2 seconds. He was also second in the 200m in 23.00.

Tavistock’s under-20 athlete Holly Kinsey was second in the women’s A 100m in 13.2 seconds, while thre was a PB for club colleague and under-17 athlete Tayla James of 13.4 seconds in the B race. Both Kinsey and James ran 27.7 seconds for the 200m.

Plymouth’s Hayley Harvey was second in the women’s 400m in 60.00, while team-mate Jake Hughes was second in the men’s 1,500m in 4:17.5. Tavistock’s Ella Tomlin came second in the long jump and third in the shot putt.
