PLYMOUTH Diving’s Matthew Dixon, Aidan Heslop and Alfie Brown are flying out to Norway today with the Great Britain squad ahead of the European Junior Championships.
The continental event starts on June 27 and takes place in the south west coastal city of Bergen.
Dixon has just returned from the senior European Diving Championships in Kiev, where he won a synchro bronze medal with Noah Williams and finished sixth in the men’s individual platform event.
The 17-year-old Plymouth Studio School pupil is the current European junior champion.
He will defend his boys’ A individual title and also compete in the synchro competition alongside Williams.
They are joined in the 16-strong GB team by Ruby Bower and Phoebe Banks, who also competed at last week’s senior championships, winning gold in the women’s platform final.
Heslop will take part in the boys’ B platform and three-metre events, while Brown will contest the boys’ B platform and one-metre competitions.
British Diving’s talent and development manager Julian Bellan said: “A number of our team will be competing again off the back of a highly successful championships with in Kiev.
“European medallists Matthew [Dixon], Noah [Williams], Ruby [Bower] and Phoebe [Banks] will re-join the junior ranks and spearhead a 16-strong team of divers competing in 17 events.
“For the first time, the juniors will contest platform synchro so I hope our experienced divers will showcase their skills and take on Europe’s best with confidence.
“With a number of experienced divers no longer available for junior duties the stage is set for a number of debut performances. We have six divers competing at their first European Juniors and I expect them to take this competition in their stride.
“This is an exciting competition for this team and with the benchmark being set for us by the senior team last week we are looking forward to kicking off action in Bergen.”
