NEWLY-promoted National Three South West side Camborne have announced that they have re-signed Sam Matavesi from Plymouth Albion.

The 24-year-old Fijian international had been expected to stay at Brickfields, but, according to Camborne, he has now decided to return to his home town club, where he will team up with his younger brother Joel.

Matavesi, who was recently sent off playing for Kitworld Eggs at the Newquay Sevens, will be Camborne’s youth development officer.

Sam Matavesi CornwallThe flanker, who can also play hooker, was a key player in Albion’s impressive 2015/16 season.

He returned to the club in November after starting the season at Camborne. He went on to make 19 starts, with Albion only losing two of those games.

Matavesi then starred for Cornwall as they retained the County Championship title for the first time in their history.

He follows fellow regular starters from last season, Jake Murphy and Tom Bedford, in joining a side in a lower league.

Meanwhile, young utility back Tom Putt, who turned 19 on Saturday, is also believed to be attracting interest from other clubs.

Putt, who made 13 appearances and scored 63 points in his first season in senior rugby, has yet to decide on his future.
