THE Plymouth Combination Sevens tournament takes place on Sunday at Plymstock Albion Oaks’ Horsham Fields.
Organisers are expecting a bumper entry of around 20 senior teams and eight colts sides, which will make the event much bigger than last year when it was held at the Rectory.
Saltash have won the event for the past two years and will be looking for a hat-trick of titles.
Plymouth Argaum have entered a team but the strength of their side will be dependent on whether they play the Pirates Amateurs in a rearranged Cornwall/Devon League match on the Saturday.
The Pirates, though, are struggling for players so that game is in doubt.
“At the moment we are not sure whether we will be playing on Saturday,” said Argaum’s director of rugby Dave Sansom.
“If we are then we will have a pretty good side.
“It could be a busy weekend for some of our players as some are playing for St Boniface Old Boys on Friday, then there could be Saturday and then the Combination Sevens on Sunday.
“For us the sevens is just a bit of fun. I would imagine Saltash and Services will be there or there abouts in the sevens.
“It is about having some fun. A lot is down to the luck of the draw as well.”
The sevens starts at 11.30am with registration at 11am.
