Ten Plymouth Leander swimmers to compete at European Champs

PLYMOUTH Leander are celebrating after having 10 swimmers selected to compete at this month’s European Championships in London.

Ben Proud, Laura Stephens, Tom Fannon and Jessica Jackson will represent Great Britain at the senior event in London, which starts on May 9 and runs through to May 22.

Olympic champion Ruta Meilutyte and Mindaugas Sadauskas will compete for Lithuania, Kregor Zirk for Estonia, Ana-Maria Damjanovska for Macedonia, Juliette Casini for Belgium and Matthew Zammit for Malta.

The city swimming club will also have five swimmers competing at the European Junior Championships in Hungary in July.

They are Plymouth College pupils Stephens, Fannon, Zirk, Damjanovska and Italy’s Federico Poggio.

All the Leander swimmers study at either Plymouth College, Plymouth University of the University of St Mark and St John.

The swimming events in London start on May 16 before that the diving competitions will be taking place and feature Tom Daley, Tonia Couch, Dan Goodfellow and Natasha MacManus.
