CITY of Plymouth’s Poppy Tank and Tavistock’s Tess Masselink claimed top 10 finishes in the under-20 women’s race at the Inter-Counties Championship in Birmingham on Saturday.
Tank, who is in her final year at Plymouth College, produced a good run representing Devon to claim seventh spot in a time of 22 minutes and 13 seconds.
Callington Community College pupil Masselink, running for Cornwall, was just six seconds behind in ninth spot in a race easily won by Kent’s Bobby Clay.
Meanwhile, Erme Valley Harriers’ Sammie Harris also claimed a top 10 national finish at the weekend.
Harris took eighth spot at the England Athletics Under-15/Under-17 Combined Event Indoor Championships in Sheffield with a personal best score of 3,030 points.
Harris jumped 5.19m in the long jump, 1.41m in the high jump, threw 9.55m for the spot and ran 9.22 seconds for the 60m hurdles and 2:43.79 for the 800m.
On the roads, there was success for Tamar Trotters’ Pete Waumsley and Erme Valley Harriers’ Sarah Hirons at the Granite Way races.
Waumsley took third place in the Granite Way 10 in a time of 1:01.24, while Hirons was first women in the 20 mile race in a time of 2:27.17.
At the 20-mile multi-terrain Grizzly run, Tamar Trotters’ Rebecca Ezra was fifth women in 2:52.56, with Erme Valley’s Emma Lake 10th in 3:02.22.
